It is in times of crisis, that one finds out what a community is made of! We want to thank all of you who have reached out over the past weeks with best wishes.
Due to these unprecedented and rapidly changing circumstances, we wanted to provide some clarity around how this epidemic might impact your orthodontic treatment. Below, please find some frequently asked questions and answers. We are here to support you and will continue to find new ways to provide you with the highest quality orthodontic care.
Be safe, and as always, if you see someone without a smile, please give them one of yours 😊

IS DR. “K” ORTHODONTICS CURRENTLY CLOSED DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC?

Although our physical office is closed, we are here for you! Due to the nature of the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions imposed by government officials, we have closed our physical office for the time being to all elective procedures for the safety of our community. Elective procedures are defined as any procedure that does not involve treating a medical emergency to preserve life. Despite the circumstances, we are available by phone, text, and FaceTime to assist with any questions and to keep your Orthodontic treatment moving!
For scheduling or any other administrative questions, please call or text 856-981-0640. If you have any treatment related questions or concerns, please call or text Dr “K” directly at 267-408-9873. For Spanish, please call or text 856-693-4989.

HOW LONG WILL THE PHYSICAL OFFICE BE CLOSED?

We are currently scheduled to reopen on April 6th. However, we are closely following and assessing the situation and will reopen as soon as allowed. In the meantime, our team will be available to assist patients by phone, text, virtual checkups, and even FaceTime if needed during regular office hours.

HOW WILL THIS INCONVENIENCE AFFECT MY ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT?

The toughest part about this interruption is the uncertainty of its duration.
For most of you, due to the technology we are using, your treatment is actually progressing even when we don’t see you for a prolonged period of time. Whatever life brings, we can assure you that we will do everything possible to keep your treatment on track.

HOW SHOULD I PROCEED IF I AM WEARING BRACES OR AN APPLIANCE?

Please make sure you keep good oral hygiene by brushing and flossing three times a day. Also remember, DO NOT eat forbidden foods to avoid any breakage. If wearing any elastics, continue to do so as directed. Your braces will continue to straighten your teeth all day and night. Proper elastic wear will continue to correct your bite. We will be able to advance your treatment once we reopen.

HOW SHOULD I PROCEED IF I AM WEARING ALIGNERS?

Please make sure to keep wearing your active aligners as instructed to continue progressing your treatment. Make sure to use your chewies and bite and hold to seat the aligners in areas where you may see visible space between your tooth and the aligner. For best results, bite into your chewie for 10 seconds and work it around your teeth, repeating for a 10-minute session at a time.
If you no longer have aligners to continue to your next week, it is perfectly ok to reduce your last aligner wear, ensuring the aligners still fit perfectly and are not tight when you put them in. This should maintain the teeth in their new position, as well as prolong the life of aligners. We should then be able to continue smoothly once we are able to see you.
Remember to keep your aligners clean and avoid all drinks other than water while wearing them.
Always remember to wash your hands before placing and removing your aligners or elastics.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I AM SCHEDULED TO START TREATMENT SOON?

We are excited for all our patients to take this big step. We are hopeful that this schedule alteration will be short. As soon as the situation has stabilized, we will be delighted to call you and start you on your journey to a beautiful, confident smile!

WHAT ABOUT GETTING MY BRACES OFF?

We are bummed, probably as much as you are, to have to postpone this exciting and long-awaited moment. ☹️
Although dental care is generally very safe for patients and providers with standard universal precautions and hospital level sterilization protocols, cleaning teeth and the removal of orthodontic bonding materials produces aerosols (tiny droplets) that could exacerbate the spread of infection. A deferral of removing braces is therefore necessary at a time like this.
Always brush and floss thoroughly to maintain your dental health as we await the passing of this situation. We will resume removal of braces as soon as we are allowed to do so.
We know this is a tough one to swallow, but we are really looking forward to celebrating your new smile with you as soon as humanly possible!

WE ARE TOLD TO WASH OUR HANDS FREQUENTLY; HOW SHOULD WE HANDLE WEARING ALIGNERS, RETAINERS, ELASTICS, ETC?

It is important to continue wearing your aligners and your rubber bands to maintain your treatment progress, or your treatment result if currently wearing retainers. Follow recommendations by washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after removing or placing your aligners, retainers, or elastics. These items can also be washed or cleaned in a diluted soap and water solution. An old toothbrush is ideal for this purpose. After cleaning the appliance, rinse thoroughly in cold water to minimize the soapy taste, just like when doing the dishes.

I LOST OR BROKE MY RETAINER OR ALIGNER. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

It is always important to wear your retainers after your treatment is complete. Call or text Dr “K” at 267-408-9873; you will be contacted to see how we can proceed.

WILL PATIENTS BE ALLOWED IN THE OFFICE AT ALL? IS THERE ANYONE THERE?

Not at this time. Our physical office is currently closed. However, we are always here virtually to help keep your treatment moving and to assist in any way we can!

I HAVE A POKING WIRE OR OTHER IRRITATION THAT IS BOTHERING ME. WHAT DO I DO?

Call or text Dr “K” at 267-408-9873! She will do her best to find an at-home resolution for you.
